This event is arranged by the people of Aylesbury to bring the local community together. Do you belong to a group that would love a chance to get on the stage and perform? What is Diwali?
Diwali is a five-day celebration that brings together family and friends in Hindu, Jain and Sikh cultures. It’s a festival recognising the power of light over dark. Diwali translates as ‘rows of lights’and small diya candles are kept burning through the night to honour and guide Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth.

Each of the five days holds a special meaning and significance, with this festival being the start of a New Year in the Hindi calendar. Gifts and blessings are exchanged, and offerings are presented at the temple. Just as importantly, everyone relishes the opportunity to dress in their finest clothes, decorate their homes and gather to enjoy food, music and laughter.

Smiles & Wonder at Aylesbury’s Festival of Lights
Motivated to recreate the Diwali spirit of joy and connection, the Holy Cow Community Trustees, Poonam, Julia, Prasshy, Kelvin, Kishor and newly appointed Joanna organise Aylesbury’s Festival of Lights. They are joined by a team of volunteers who make this a special event in our town’s calendar. No matter what your age, culture or faith, you are invited to come along. Take a look at the photos from previous Festival of Light events to see the smiles and wonder!

Space is limited, so don’t forget to book your place for Sunday 2 November at Discover Bucks Museum in Church Street, Aylesbury. We look forward to welcoming you!
